Texaco 1936Item #: -1337
The world's first oil gusher was in 1901 in the Spindletop Heights section of Big Hill, near Beaumont, Texas. Many independent oil companies profited from that strike including the Texas Fuel Company founded by Joseph Cullinan. He bought cheap Texas oil and sold it back East to the Standard interests. By 1904, Spindletop had dried up and the Texas Fuel Company found its own oil nearby in Sour Lake, Texas. The company prospered and became one of the nation's major producers. The TEXACO star, which came from the Lone Star on the Texas State flag has gone through many changes over the years.
