Studebaker Automobile Sign - Auto Sign Collectible
"The largest Vehicle Factory in the World! Annual Capacity 75,000 Vehicles!" This claim boosts not just of the STUDEBAKER automobile, but of the Studebaker horse-drawn wagon, which is how the company first began in the early 1800's. The Studebaker's, a family of wagon makers and blacksmiths from South Bend, Indiana, began turning out the first battery-operated electric cars in 1902. They produced quality, sleek, luxury cars until the end of WWII when the advent of mass production began to effect and eventually doom the production of luxury car types. Studebaker merged with PACKARD in 1954 hoping to give them a competitive edge in the ailing U.S. car manufacturing market. By 1966, they were out of business after a short period as a "foreign import" made in China.
