Southern PacificItem #: -1324
The SOUTHERN PACIFIC dates from 1884 and by 1900 had developed into the "southern" transcontinental linking the Old South with California. The SP once ran one of the best passenger fleets in the world. The trains, like the territory they served, were colorfully painted. The logo, with its track leading off to the setting sun, symbolized its leadership in settling the west. Its engineering feats include a long causeway across the Great Salt Lake and the Tehachapi Loop where the locomotive literally meets its caboose in hairpin curves.
