The various versions of the PEPSI COLA trademark reflect the drink's bumpy route to success. In the mid 1890's, Caleb D. Bradham, a pharmacist from New Bern, North Carolina, concocted it and first sold it as "Brads Drink." He changed the name to Pepsi Cola-it had been intended to relieve dyspepsia-and four years later went for national distribution. Business boomed until World War I when rationing and wild price fluctuations of sugar led to bankruptcy. The company floundered under new owners until 1933 when they boldly doubled the size of the bottle to twelve ounces while holding the price at 5 cents.
