Hershey Kiss Kids - Porcelain Metal Sign
Milton S. Hershey got his start in the candy business during his younger years while working as an apprentice to JoeRoyer, a candy maker in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. At the age of 19, he grew impatient to be on his own, and decided to open up his own shop. He made all sorts of different confections, even trying cough drops for a while. Hershey made a small fortune in the caramel business and in 1900, at the age of 43, he decided that caramels were just a "fad" and risked everything on a new venture- the 5 cent chocolate bar. The Hershey chocolate bar was America's first mass-produced wrapped candy which proved itself to be far more convenient to handle, display and sell than the unwrapped kinds displayed in glass jars or bins. In 1907, just two years after the Hershey factory was completed in what is now Hershey, Pennsylvania, Milton S. Hershey introduced Hershey's Kisses Milk Chocolates. Fourteen years later the plume or flag was added and Hershey's Kisses have remained the same ever since. 11 7/16" X 7 1/2"
