Walter Chrysler, founder of Chrysler Corporation, began producing well-engineered, stylish, and affordable cars in 1924. In 1928, in an effort to compete with General Motors and Ford, Chrysler purchased the Dodge Brothers Company and launched two new companion cars, the medium priced Desoto, and the low priced Plymouth. Plymouth often shared dealerships with the higher priced Chrysler and the red, yellow, and blue CHRYSLER-PLYMOUTH dealer signs were a common sight in most American towns in the 1930's and 1940's.
